Strength in unity, comfort in community

The care we provide our residents covers more than their physical needs. We cultivate a traditional, non-institutional home environment for people with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Every holiday, birthday, or accomplishment is a cause for celebration at Treiser Maison Shalom and we celebrate milestones and holidays as a family in our homes.

We offer two programs:
full-time residency and part-time respite

RESIDENCY

Full-time living space and 24-hour care for adults with developmental disabilities.

Respite

Temporary, or transitional stays with 24-hour care for adults with developmental disabilities to provide relief for their families.

RESIDENCY

Two homes, one family

We have two homes in Montreal, both of which are wheelchair accessible. We welcome adults of any age and gender into our homes and are the only kosher organization in Montreal and the surrounding area to offer resident and respite services to such a wide-ranging population.

Our residents live to their fullest potential in our homes because they love and are loved like family – by each other, by the staff, and by their community.

Many of our residents have lived at Treiser Maison Shalom since our inception in 1989, and the bonds they have built with each other and with our staff reflect this longevity. That said, newcomers integrate quickly as long-term residents love welcoming people into our family. Our full-time residents keep busy and lead rich lives, enjoying celebrations, outings, and community projects together.

RESPITE

Friends become family

As parents, it can be excruciatingly difficult to let go of caring full-time for your child, which is why we offer respite, meaning temporary stays. This includes day visits, overnights, or extended weekend or weekday stays.

This program provides a much-needed break for families who take care of their loved ones 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Respite allows family caregivers to refresh and recharge while their loved one enjoys time with residents and staff.

What parents say about Maison Shalom

“My son was approaching 32 years of age and had been hospitalized numerous times because of his seizure disorder. I had my own health issues at the time but did very little to address them.
When my daughter went to visit Maison Shalom, her eyes filled with tears seeing the expert care, kindness, and love the clients received from the staff. This was the home she could envision her brother living in! It took some time, but she eventually convinced me to let Andrew sleep over for one night… which became a weekend… which slowly became his new home away from home. I was seeing a miracle in the works!”

My son has now been living at Maison Shalom for 25 years. I never in my wildest dreams thought that we could separate from each other and that he would be okay. He is more than okay. He is thriving. All his needs are being met beautifully by the caring and devoted staff and I finally ‘have a life’ as well. What would I have done without Treiser Maison Shalom?
I can delight in saying that all of Andrew’s needs are being met by the most capable, loving, and devoted staff!”

“The respite program at Maison Shalom provides short and long-term relief. In our particular case, this is two-fold; it provides me with short-term breaks that can relieve stress, renew energy, and restore a sense of balance to my life, and more importantly, it allows my son to be in a home environment that provides professional caregivers that my son feels very comfortable with. It also allows him to be stimulated with all the activities and programs that this special place has to offer.”

“The staff have been very caring and loving, while also teaching Chaim daily living skills and social skills. He feels safe, and secure with the staff being present 24/7. The staff work above the call of duty, are dedicated, and create a family-like atmosphere within the home. ”
